Huawei Mate 20 Pro – My Review

I am so lucky that I was asked to review this device via The Insiders WOM panel.

After being converted from Apple to Huawei last year when reviewing a predecessor (Huawei Mate 10 Pro) I couldn’t wait to get started with my new phone.

First impressions, very impressed. From the slick design, the mirrored effect casing on the reverse and smooth lines and edges it definitely looks the business.

When powering up it had the usual fast processing times that new phones often have, but even when data and apps were loaded onto it it didn’t seem to bring the speed down, even when playing high powered games and apps it never seems to get slowed down.

The first individual feature I must discuss is the camera, of course, this phone basically is the holy grail of mobile phone cameras, the quality, the speed, the automatic processing, and the amazing feature of of HiVision where the phone can determine what an item is, where you can buy it, where you can buy similar items and even translate text into different languages. It is truly amazing, I am forever showing people the different features the camera has!

The detail in the flower is amazing, all captured by the Huawei Mate 20 Pro

Aside from that new features include the fingerprint scanner on the central main phone front screen – no complaints there. The fabulous face recognition to open the phone is a wonderful feature, it helps speed things up when using the phone without needing to use the fingerprint scanner or passcode, and to be honest I reply on this as my most popular method of unlocking the phone.

Wireless charging is something I usually find pretty gimmicky, but it has actually been useful in one of our cars which has wireless charging built in. I don’t think I would go out of my way to replace my chargers with wireless ports for the simple reason it’s another bit of junk to cover up and hide and it doesn’t offer the same capabilities of the ultra fast charging that the standard cable does but still a useful feature if you end up out and about with a reduced battery, and it even charges through the case I have which I thought was rather useful.

Now moving on to the traditional charging method, it is so fast, I have had ultrafast chargers before but this is something else! I couldn’t tell you the exact amount of time for a full charge, because I honestly don’t think my battery has ever run down to almost empty but it is very fast indeed. I am the type of annoying person that is forever attached to my phone and despite this constant use and pulling of data I don’t feel like I need to carry my charger around with me everywhere I go which is always bonus. N.B The first time I charged the device up I did notice it get VERY hot! I was a little worried so unplugged immediately and took to the internet to find that a few others have reported the same for the first charge so I popped it back in, used it for the day and when I came to charge for the second time the heat wasn’t an issue at all.

After a months use I certainly can’t say I have used every feature on this device, but what I can say is that you will not be disappointed if you decide to purchase. If you have any questions please fell free to ask, and if you have any secret wins or tips you think I may find useful, fire away!
